Business Development Review for the STEAM Coast Trail

The STEAM Coast Trail aimed to build a network of multi-user paths around West Somerset.  With the early stages of funding for development of the Trail in place, there was a need to better understand and identify best practice in business engagement techniques, in order to facilitate the realisation of economic benefits.

The study explored two key questions:

• What are the key cycling markets that could be exploited by the trail?
• What constitutes best practice in terms of business engagement?

Answering these questions involved:

• Desk research (literature and data analysis)
• Interviews with local stakeholders to understand the West Somerset context
• Interviews with representatives from other multi-use trails within the UK to identify best practice
• Development of a business engagement plan for each key opportunity
