Pan Dorset Economic Growth Framework

Developing a long-term economic growth framework for Dorset and BCP

Buckman Associates supported the development of a strategic economic growth framework for the Pan Dorset area, bringing together Dorset Council, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) Council and regional stakeholders behind a shared vision for sustainable economic growth.

The project required the creation of an evidence-led framework capable of identifying long-term economic opportunities, addressing structural challenges and establishing clear priorities for investment, productivity and regional collaboration across Dorset.

What was required

The Dorset economy faces a number of interconnected challenges including skills shortages, an ageing population, infrastructure constraints and lower-than-average productivity growth. At the same time, the region has significant strengths in advanced manufacturing, defence, clean energy, financial services, creative and digital and health sciences.

A strategic framework was needed to:

• establish a clear and shared economic vision for the area
• identify priority sectors and growth opportunities
• support future investment and funding opportunities
• align public, private and education sector priorities
• provide a long-term platform for economic collaboration across the Pan Dorset geography

Our role

Buckman Associates supported the development of the framework through strategic analysis, stakeholder engagement and place-based economic planning.

• stakeholder consultation and engagement
• development of strategic growth priorities
• development of a regional narrative for investment and economic development

The framework considered the interconnected economic relationships between Dorset and BCP, recognising the importance of creating a joined-up approach to regional growth.

Outcome

The completed framework established a shared strategic direction for economic growth across the Pan Dorset area and created a robust evidence base for future investment and policy development. It now provides a key reference point for economic planning and regional collaboration across Dorset.
